Single-family home
For this clients it was very important for their new house to be as energy-efficient as possible. Also the building traditions from the region (North Germany), the regulations for this building site (only one level + attic was allowed) and the tight budget inspired this plain design for a home for a family with two children. We choose a north-south orientation and placed the house close to the northern border of the parcel of land – not in the middle as it was designated in the development plan. The north facade is as closed as possible while the south facade widely opens to the sun. This decisions already make sure that in winter on sunny days no additional heating is needed at daytime. The hall is the heart of the house and takes care of spreading warm air to all rooms. In summer doors open widely to the garden, the overhang of the roof provides shadow.
